POSTGAME QUOTES
College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant
On the game …
"I thought we hunkered down and started to settle down a little bit after they (Georgia College) made a run in the middle of the second half. We had 19 assists, which I thought was good. We talked about moving the ball, sharing the ball and taking care of it. We played 30 good minutes, but we had about 10 minutes out there where we just have to be better with our ball care and decision-making. Defensively, we had a few breakdowns. I did a lot of subbing in the middle of the first half. I'm glad we showed enough effort to find a way to win the game. Particularly the start of the second half, we looked more like who we need to be all throughout the 40 minutes. We have a lot to build and improve on. They (Georgia College) have a good chance to be a good team. Every game they've played was close and they played some zone that we struggled with today."
Â
On having Marquise Pointer back in the lineup …
"It was really good to get him back. It's an adjustment for him and an adjustment for us right now. It's an adjustment for the guys on the team, because he hasn't been in the rotation. It was very necessary to get him into the game for eight minutes. He and I have communicated a lot about easing him back into the rotation. Tonight, he was off the ball with Grant (Riller) playing the point. Certainly, he is a big part of what we do. He has a lot of blood and sweat equity in this program. He is the heart and soul of our team."
Â
College of Charleston Senior Guard Marquise Pointer
On being back in the lineup …
"It was refreshing. I was glad to be back out there after so long. I'm just glad the wait is over, and now, I get the chance to get slowly back in. During this whole rehab process, I've been working out really hard every day with (Strength) Coach (Marc) Proto and was ready for the moment."
Â
On seeing the young guys fill-in while he has been out …
"It's good for them, especially those young guys to get in early. I've been in that position before (as a freshman). It feels good to get in early, get into the flow of the game and learn while you are in the game instead of learning when you are sitting on the bench. The in-game experience has been good for them."
Â
College of Charleston Senior Forward Nick Harris
On his contributions the last couple of games …
"Today, I got to the free throw line a lot and that always helps getting some easy baskets. I've been working with my coach, (Assistant) Coach (J.D.) Powell, on my free throws and I feel great now. My touch feels like it's back."
Â
On having five players scoring in double figures including himself …
"Scoring is not really the issue in this game. We can score all we want, but we have to play defense. That's what our team has been built on for the last five years. That's what we focus on. It's great that we had five people in double digits, but their (Georgia College) scorers probably scored too much."
