MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (11-9) fell at home to the South Alabama Jaguars (14-1) by a score of 7-0 on Tuesday.
USA churned out a doubles point with wins on courts two and three, and then increased their lead to 2-0 when No. 99 Alexandria Stiteler defeated Helena Nyikos 6-3, 6-3 on court one. Rachel McNeely couldn't quite pull off the comeback on court three, and the Jaguars won the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six.
The remaining matches all went three sets, but the Cougars couldn't quite steal a point in any of them. Both Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska let first set wins get away from them, falling in their second sets and their super tiebreak encounters. Turner Yates played the closest match of the day which involved two tiebreaks, but her opponent Patricia Martins was able to hang on 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-5.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday at home, when they face off against Georgia Southern at 2 p.m.
