ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (14-10) completed the season sweep of SC State (5-7) on Tuesday, defeating the Bulldogs in decisive 7-0 fashion.
With no Rachel McNeely or Anastasia Palaska in action, the Cougars jumbled up their doubles rotations, deploying Helena Nyikos alongside Christi Woodson on court one, promoting Laura Arciniegas and Turner Yates up to court two, and pairing the freshman tandem of Ava Turner and Catalina Medici on court three. CofC was able to take the point 2-1 with wins on their top two courts to seize the early edge.
Nobody was able to quite pull off a shutout in singles action, but Laura Arciniegas on court four and Catalina Medici on court five came awfully close, defeating their opponents in just 13 games each. Sarah Zschunke and Turner Yates performed admirably as well, winning their encounters in 14 games each.
The closest matches of the day came in the upper flights, but the Cougars were able to get out of those without too much trouble. Helena Nyikos defeated Andjela Mihailovic 6-2, 6-1, while Christi Woodson knocked off Aleksandra Sredojevic with a pair of 6-2 sets.
The Cougars have one final road trip before the CAA Tournament, with Towson and UNCW on the docket for this weekend in Wilmington.
