Cougars Drop Pair of Pitcher's Duels to James Madison

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – The College of Charleston limited a powerful James Madison offense to only six runs in two games but could not generate enough offense to avoid a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Dukes at Patriots Point.

JMU (30-8, 10-1 Colonial Athletic Association) won by scores of 2-0 and 4-1 to remain one game behind Hofstra in the league standings. The Cougars (23-20, 3-8) will look to salvage the final game of the series Sunday at noon.

Summer Jenkins allowed seven hits in a complete game in the opener, but four of those came in a row to start the third including RBI singles by Natalie Cutright and Odicci Alexander. Alexander tossed a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts, limiting the Cougars to a single and stolen base by Yari Felix in the first.

In the nightcap, Izzy Berouty and Payton Buresch matched zeroes until the Cougars scored their first run of the day in the fifth. Lexee Emanuel singled and advanced to third when Morgan Tolle committed a two-base throwing error on a grounder by Dexlie Inman.

With two outs, Felix lined a shot off Tolle that brought home pinch runner Jordan Barcus. But the lead proved short lived when the Dukes loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, and Hannah File cleared them with a grand slam just inside the left field foul pole.

Kylie Burke relieved Berouty and allowed only one hit and struck out two in two innings. Buresch finished with a four-hitter with four strikeouts.
