Last Time Out
The Cougars dropped their first weekend series of the season after falling to Elon on Friday and Saturday. Charleston rebounded with a 5-3 win on Sunday behind
Bradley Dixon's two-run single, and
Nathan Ocker's sixth save of the season.
Hunt-ing K's
Junior
Clay Hunt delivered his most dominant pitching performance as a Cougar last Tuesday with a career-high 11 strikeouts - seven more than his previous best - in six and one-third hitless innings to earn the win against No. 20 Coastal Carolina. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound right-hander threw 81 pitches, including 57 for strikes, while allowing just two Chanticleers to reach base - one via a walk and one via an error.
Two-Out Raker
Bradley Dixon continues to deliver clutch hits when the Cougars need it most, entering the week as the team-leader in two-out RBIs. The redshirt junior has accounted for 11 of his 16 runs driven in with two down.
Commanding the Zone
The Cougars' pitching staff continues to set the national standard in painting the black and challenging opposing hitters while limiting base runners, and entered the week leading Division I in walks allowed per nine innings for the third straight week. Despite surrendering seven walks last Tuesday to Coastal Carolina, Charleston remains firmly in the national lead with an average of 2.38 walks per nine.
Scouting Charleston Southern
Charleston Southern enters the week with a 10-19 record after taking two-of-three from Longwood this weekend. The Bucs are hitting .233 this season - led by Mike Sconzo with a .324 clip.
Mike Sconzo paces the Bucs with two home runs, 13 RBIs, and a .324 batting average. Tuesday's starting pitcher, Will Hartsell makes his first start of the season after posting a 1-1 record and a 5.57 ERA in 13 appearances out of the bullpen.
