Charleston Falls to Huskies, 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. --- Lauren Freed recorded a double-double and freshman Emma Falk contributed 10 kills off the bench as College of Charleston fell to Northeastern, 3-1, in a tightly contested Colonial Athletic Association match on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Northeastern's offense combined for 53 kills as the Huskies' defense collected seven blocks and held the Cougars to a .070 hitting percentage.
  • Four Huskies recorded at least 11 kills including a double-double for Athena Ardila with 11 kills and 14 digs.
  • Northeastern libero Clare Lund led all players with a match-high 24 digs.
  • Lauren Freed paced the Cougars with her 34th career double-double accounting for 11 kills and 13 digs.
  • Mandy Napierala led the way for CofC with a match-high 13 kills to go along with nine digs and four blocks.
 
COUGAR OF THE MATCH
Falk provided a spark off the bench with 10 kills, three blocks and a .364 hitting percentage. The freshman middle blocker collected three kills in each of the second and third frames before adding four in the final set.
 
NOTABLES
  • With her double-double today Freed is now four digs short of reaching the coveted 1,000-mark for her career. The senior outside is also 23 kills shy of recording her 1,000th career smash.
  • Freshman Tori Carpenter finished one dig shy of a double-double with 35 assists, nine digs and two aces.
  • Fellow rookie Caroline Pender chipped in a season-high nine digs.
  • Logan Manusky paced the defense with 16 digs and is now 76 away from reaching the 1,000 mark for her career.
  • Claire Campbell contributed five kills, five digs and three blocks.

The Cougars return to the court next Sunday, October 20 when they travel to Towson, Md. to take on Towson in CAA action. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
