Fullerton, Calif. - The College of Charleston fell to Long Beach State, 11-1, in its first game of the Easton Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
The 49ers outhit the Cougars, 17-5, including four singles and a double in the first when they scored four times. Charleston scored its lone run in the fourth when
Kelly Sinclair singled with two outs and came across on a double by
Gracyn Thrasher.
The Cougars threatened one more time when
Brittany Vicary and
Noel Dominguez singled in the fifth but both runners were stranded.
Yari Felix had the other Charleston base hit.
Chandler Sparkman worked three innings in relief of starter
Izzy Berouty and allowed only one run while striking out two. Kellie White went the distance in the circle for Long Beach State (10-14) and fanned seven without issuing a walk.
The Cougars play twice on Saturday, taking on Boston University at 1:30 (Eastern Time) and Harvard immediately following.
