Cougars Down Pair of Beantown Teams at Easton Invitational

Fullerton, Calif. – Drayton Siegling and Chandler Sparkman combined on a four-hitter in a 1-0 win over Boston University, and Lexee Emanuel's three-run homer highlighted a come-from-behind 9-8 victory over Harvard as the College of Charleston went 2-0 on the second day of the Easton Invitational.

The Cougars moved back over .500 at 13-12 with tournament games remaining against Iowa State and host Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.

Siegling went the first 5.1 innings against the Terriers and allowed only three hits as she improved to 4-0. She retired 11 in a row before BU put two on with one out in the sixth, and Sparkman got the final two outs of that frame and struck out a pair in the seventh for her third save.

Charleston scored the only run in the fifth when Dexlie Inman singled and eventually came across on an infield single by Noel Dominguez

The Cougars trailed Harvard, 6-3, in the fifth but cut their deficit to one on RBI singles by Ginna Leaphart and Inman. Yari Felix and Madi Brown singled to put two on in the sixth, setting the table for Emanuel's opposite field homer that put Charleston in front to stay and giving her a team-leading 14 RBI.

A single by Sparkman and a Crimson error gave the Cougars a 9-6 lead, and the insurance run proved important when Harvard scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Siegling came in with the tie run at third and one out and induced a ground out and strikeout to earn the save.

Siegling has not allowed a run and only 12 hits over her last 17 innings in four appearances the past two weekends. Izzy Berouty, the second of three Cougar pitchers, went three innings and picked up her third win.

Sparkman slammed a three-run shot to center to stake the Cougars to a first inning lead before the Crimson responded with six runs over the third and fourth innings.

Brown had two hits and scored three runs against Harvard, and Emanuel, Sparkman and Felix joined her with two hits each.
