
Charleston Takes Two From Saint Leo, North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Three pairings registered a pair of dual victories, and the duo of Meghan Murphy (Orange, Calif.) and Megan Morris (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) finished second in the pairs tournament to highlight a successful conclusion to the College of Charleston beach volleyball team's first weekend of the season.
College of Charleston 5, Saint Leo 0
The Cougars started the morning with a sweep of Saint Leo to move to 2-0 on the season. Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) delivered a 21-11, 21-10 victory at five's to begin the day, before Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) picked up their first win of 2019 with a 21-14, 21-16 decision at four's. McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) and Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) cruised to a 21-8, 21-17 win at two's to clinch the team victory.
Charleston's top pairing of Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) continued their strong start with a 21-14, 21-17 win, before Amani Dunston (Agoura, Calif.) and Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) battled their way to a 21-17, 20-22, 15-9 victory at three's.

North Florida presented the Cougars' toughest test of the weekend in the final dual of the day in a back-and-forth battle. After wins at two's and five's for Charleston and three's and four's for North Florida, the match came down to both teams' top pairing at one's. Madison and Freed delivered in the clutch for the Cougars, tying a bow on their perfect start to the season with a straight-set victory to help the Cougars complete the 3-0 weekend.
Pairs Tournament
The Cougars fielded four pairings in the pairs tournament, with the duo of Murphy and Morris posting a 3-2 record and falling in the finals. Sky Benjamin (Easley, S.C.) and Ella Ridinger (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) placed third with a 3-2 mark, while Brooke Harris (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Peyton Eisnaugle (Dallas, Texas) finished with a 1-2 record. The combination of Claire Campbell (Raleigh, N.C.), Molly Russell (Conroe, Texas), and Lauren Percy (Charleston, S.C.) posted a 1-2 mark as well.
