SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State edged the College of Charleston women's tennis team 4-3 in a close Spring Break matchup for The College in the Golden State. The top of the singles lineup narrowing the score line for the Cougars after the Spartans took a 4-1 lead through the doubles point and three singles victories.
Christi Woodson battled back from a first set deficit to take down the Spartans Tamara Culibrk 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, to cut the home teams lead to 2-1 in singles action, Woodson winning her third straight match on court one. San Jose State took the doubles point through victories on courts one and two alongside a 6-3, 6-2, singles win on court three to build their advantage.
The Spartans extended their lead with wins on courts five and six as singles play continued,
Eva Nyikos on court two also battling from a first set loss to defeat Miyo Kobayshi 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 to make it 4-2 to San Jose State.
Lily LaBiche on court four was last to finish, the freshman winning her fourth straight match with a 7-5, 7-6, (7-4), victory to make the final score 4-3 to the Spartans.
Charleston returns to Patriots Point on Mar. 20 for a match with Colonial Athletic Association rival Drexel who visit the lowcountry for a 1 p.m. first serve.
