ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team made their Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State worthwhile with a clean sweep in doubles and singles play, not dropping a set throughout match play, to defeat Hope College, 7-0, on Thursday evening for an eighth straight win.
Robby Krick and
Ben Cawston teamed up on court three to open doubles play with a 6-1 victory, No. 75 ITA/Oracle ranked duo of
Johnny Wang and reigning Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week
Benedikt Henning, winning 6-4 on court two.
Easton Thomas and
Ksawery Pociej completed the doubles sweep with a 7-6 (3) win on court one.
Singles action followed with the Cougars dominating. Henning made it 15 straight wins in the number one spot with a 6-0, 6-0, victory over VanderStoep of Hope College, Pociej also winning 6-0, 6-0, on court four for his eighth straight win.
Ben Husum entered the singles lineup for the second time this year on court six, winning 6-4, 6-0, while Krick won 6-2, 6-0, on court five.
Wang on court three swept past Kroeze of Hope College 6-1, 6-0, while Cawston battled to a 6-2, 7-5, victory on court two for his seventh straight win to complete the straight sets sweep for Charleston and give The College a 7-0 victory.
The Cougars now look to a matchup with CAA rival Elon on Monday, Mar. 25 at Patriots Point to open a six-match home stretch before the CAA Championships in April. First serve with the Phoenix is set for 3 p.m.
