
Cougars Battle To A 5-2 Victory Over Drexel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A three-and-a-half-hour battle between the College of Charleston men's tennis team and Drexel went the way of the Cougars, freshman Johnny Wang clinching the match on court three, Easton Thomas putting an emphasis on the win on court one to give The College a 5-2 victory over their Colonial Athletic Association rivals.
ITA/Oracle No. 75 ranked doubles pair of Benedikt Henning and Wang opened the match with a 6-2 victory on court two over Sanil Jagtiani and Xandy Hammitt of the Dragons, Thomas and Ksawery Pociej falling 4-6 on court one.
Freshman duo Robby Krick and Ben Cawston clinched the doubles point for Charleston. A back-and-forth set went the way of The College, 7-6, with the pair racking up their 14th doubles win of the season.
Drexel levelled the match in singles play, Andre Limon falling in straight sets on court five with Krick continuing his form from doubles play to put Charleston back on top by taking down Gustav Wogen on court six, 6-3, 7-6.
Pociej battled back to force a 7-6 tie-breaking first set, the sophomore winning comfortably 6-2 in the second for a straight sets win on court four with the top of the Charleston lineup all going into third sets.
Wang was first to finish on court three, clinching the victory for the Cougars with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win – picking up his 14th singles victory of the year in the process.
With Cawston falling on court two in three sets, Thomas made the final score 5-2 to Charleston with a come-from-behind win on court one. Despite dropping the first set 5-7, the junior stormed back with a 6-3 second and 6-2 third set to take the win and move to 3-0 in the No. 1 spot over the season.
The Cougars now look to a Sunday matchup against Furman, first serve is set for 11 a.m. at Patriots Point.
