CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The undefeated College of Charleston beach volleyball team will face perhaps its toughest competition of the regular season this weekend at Georgia State's Diggin' Duals in Atlanta, Ga., as the Cougars put their 12-0 start to the season on the line.
The Cougars will take on No. 19 Georgia State, and three more opponents receiving votes in the latest AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll in Arizona State, UAB, and University of Tampa on Friday and Saturday. Charleston opens the weekend with an 8:00 a.m. matchup against UAB on Friday before facing Arizona State at 12:00 p.m. After squaring off against Tampa on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., the Cougars will close out the weekend against No. 19 Georgia State at 12:00 p.m.
Charleston carries an unblemished 12-0 record into the weekend after dropping only one pairing against Carson-Newman, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, and Morehead State last weekend at the UNCW Dig and Dive Beach Bash. The Cougars are one of only two undefeated teams in the nation this season, and share the honor with top-ranked UCLA. Top pairing Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio), and No. 2 duo McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) and Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) both own a perfect 12-0 record this season for the Cougars.
Arizona State enters the weekend with a 10-8 record this season, while Tampa carries an 8-7 mark. UAB is 9-7 so far this season, and Georgia State comes into the weekend with a 13-9 overall record. The Cougars will face UAB at 8:00 a.m. and Arizona State at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by Tampa at 8:00 a.m. and host Georgia State at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
