CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team continues a March-long homestand with three matches this weekend, beginning with in-state rivals Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. first serve.
The Cougars continue the weekend with two matches on Sunday against Lehigh at 9:30 a.m. and Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m., all three contests held at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point with live stats available at CofCStats.com.

"It's a real celebration weekend, we have a lot of the current players parents coming back to watch their daughters play… We hope our players put on a good show while they're here… We're real excited about that and to top it all off, we have the Volvo Open ball kids here on Saturday working the match against Coastal and that's just a real treat for the players… The kids are so professional, these are the same ball crews that work the professional event in a couple of weeks here so we should have a great crowd and hopefully we have a good outcome, at the very least a lot of fun."
Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers are on a three-match win streak, two at home and one on the road, after downing Ashland, Wofford and most recently N.C. A&T State. Viktorija Demcenkova is 4-1 in flight one while Jennifer Brown is 3-0 in flight two. Charleston are 15-3 all-time against Coastal Carolina, 8-1 at Patriots Point.
Scouting Lehigh
The Mountain Hawks are 4-4 on the season, falling in three straight matches to open the year before bouncing back with a three-match win streak, all at home. Most recently Lehigh fell to NJIT before defeating LaSelle University on Sunday. This will be the first road test of 2019 for the Mountain Hawks and the first meeting between the programs in history.
Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Bulldogs are 2-3 entering this weekend in which they face Charleston Southern on Saturday before travelling to Patriots Point for a match against Charleston on Sunday. Most recently Gardner-Webb took down USC Upstate 4-3 on the road to open Big South play. Miljana Ristic is 2-3 in flight onoe while Daniela Naupari is 2-3 in flight two.

In strong starts to their senior seasons, Christi Woodson and Turner Yates have both earned CAA Singles Player of the Week honors, Woodson on Feb. 27 and Yates on Jan. 30. Woodson picked up the weekly award after going 2-0 in flight one action against CAA rivals UNCW and in-city rivals Charleston Southern. Woodson's only losses in flight one this season have come against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
Yates is 5-1 in singles play, 4-1 in flight five and 1-0 in flight four, a lone loss coming on the road at Clemson. Yates has picked up her last three singles wins in straight sets fashion, giving up just four total matches through six sets.
Starting Off The Home Stand Right
Charleston began the season 2-0 Patriots Point after defeating UNCW on Feb. 22 and Georgia Southern on Feb. 10.
Against CAA rivals UNCW, Charleston dominated in doubles play with Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska winning on court one and Sarah Zschunke and Turner Yates winning on court three.
Woodson, Palaska and Yates took singles victories on courts one, two and four with Ava Turner and Catalina Medici winning on five and six for the dominating 6-1 victory.
Against Georgia Southern Clara Errard picked up her first collegiate victory to give CofC the come-from-behind 4-3 victory. The freshman from Toulouse, France, battled back with a third set victory to give Charleston the home opening victory.
The Season Opening Weekend
Charleston picked up a season opening win over USC Upstate on Jan. 18, with senior duo Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke winning on court three to claim the doubles point. Christi Woodson, Lily Labiche and Yates all winning in straight sets on courts one, two and five to give The College a 4-3 win.
Yates strong singles action continued against Wake Forest and Clemson, the senior earning the CAA Singles Player of the Week nod after pushing No. 98 ranked Deacon Peyton Pesavento to a narrow third set loss (6-3, 2-6, 4-6), before leveling up against the Tigers Miller-Krasilnikov, 3-6, 6-1, before the match was called early.

Charleston looks to the leadership of four seniors and one junior in head coach Angelo Anastapoulo's 28th season in charge. Laura Arciniegas, 2018 All-CAA Singles Second Team selection Christi Woodson, Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke return alongside Anastasia Palaska, Ava Turner and Catalina Medici from a 2018 squad that finished 17-11 in the CAA Semifinal round. Newcomers include sophomore Eva Nyikos, a transfer from North Florida and sister to last season's senior Helena Nyikos, alongside Clara Errard and Lily LaBiche.
