Alondra Vicary Shines in Series Clinching Win at Towson

Towson, Md. – Alondra Vicary drove in five runs, including her first career home run, to lead the College of Charleston to a 7-4 victory over Towson and a 2-1 win in the CAA series.

The sophomore infielder joined twin sister Brittany with a five-RBI game this season on the strength of a two-run single in the third and a three-run shot in the fifth. She entered the game with six RBI on the year and 10 in her career.

Izzy Berouty picked up win, allowing only one run in 3.1 innings of relief of starter Drayton Siegling. She came in with one out in the fourth after the Tigers had trimmed their deficit to 4-3 and escaped a two-on, one-out jam to keep the Cougars (20-22, 5-7 CAA) in front.

Charleston started quickly with two in the top of the first. Brittany Vicary and Madi Brown had back-to-back leadoff doubles, and Lexee Emanuel singled in a run with two outs, the first of her three hits, to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Towson scored in the second before a double by Gracyn Thrasher put runners on second and third, and Alondra Vicary followed with a base hit to make it 4-1 in the third. After the Tigers tallieed twice in the fourth, Vicary again gave the Cougars breathing room when her drive cleared the fence in left to up the advantage to 7-3.

The Tigers (20-21, 4-8 CAA) scored once in the fifth and put the leadoff batter on in the final two innings, but Berouty was able to slam the door shut including a game-ending double play.

The Cougars return to Patriots Point on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game against Charleston Southern then head to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on CAA leader James Madison next weekend.
