Cougars Start Conference Play 2-0 For First Time Since 2009-10 Season

Box Score Final Score: College of Charleston 84, Delaware 73
Location: Charleston, S.C. (TD Arena)
Records: CofC (9-4, 2-0 CAA) Delaware (4-9, 0-2 CAA)
The Short Story: The College held off a late surge by Delaware to earn its first 2-0 start in conference play since the 2009-10 season. This win makes it four in a row for the Cougars, which is the second time this feat has been accomplished this season.

QUICK FACTS
  • Senior Deja Ford led all scorers with 24 points, knocking down a career-best seven three pointers.
  • Sophomore Latrice Perkins poured in 19 points while also grabbing eight rebounds and snatching up three steals.
  • Sophomore Arynn Eady poured in 12 points of her own while getting a career-high six steals in the process.
  • This win marked the first time the Cougars have went 2-0 in conference play since the 2009-10 season in which The College was a part of the SoCon.
  • CofC shot above 50% from the field and from beyond the arc for the second game in a row.
  • This was the first time since the 2015-16 season that The College took down Delaware.
  • The Cougars nine wins on the season is the most wins through the first 13 games since the 2009-10 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, there were six lead changes and three ties within the first four minutes of play before CofC went on 9-0 run to take a lead that it never let go of.
  • Ford caught fire in the first quarter, knocking down 4/5 shots from deep en route to 12 points that guided the Cougars to a 13-point lead at the end of the quarter.
  • After Delaware cut the lead to within single digits at the 9:12 mark of the second quarter, a Perkins three pointer put the lead back into double digits.
  • The Blue Hens opened up the second half with a quick triple, but Ford answered right back with one of her own that sparked a 12-0 run that was capped off by another bucket by Ford.
  • Freshman Taylor Williams knocked down a three pointer to halt a 9-0 run by the Blue Hens and to give CofC a 14-point lead.
  • Delaware showed some promise in the fourth, bringing the lead within six points, but the Cougars held the comeback off by knocking down clutch free throws down the stretch.

HEAD COACH ROBIN HARMONY
"I'm happy with the way our team responded in back-to-back games. That's what was keeping me up at night. 'Would we come and play again the way that we're getting used to?', and they did. There are some things that we want to fix. They had 28 second chance points on us and trust me, we're telling them at the timeout, 'Shot and box. Put someone on your butt and box them off.' I think right now as coaches we are fire fighters and we keep having to put out fires. So that's a fire we have to take care of between now and our next game that we need to start boxing off and stop giving up easy points. But we played a great team again and our kids are starting to get that feeling that they like this, that they like to win. If we could get some more fans to come out that would be great. If you're a Cougar fan, look and see what the women's team is doing and come support us as well because our kids really deserve it."

WHAT'S NEXT
