CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston women's basketball head coach Robin Harmony has announced the signing of one of the top recruiting classes in program history.
The Cougars inked three players who rank among the nation's elite, including two from Texas and one from Maryland.
Heading to CofC from the Lone Star State are Grace Abercrombie (Jacksonville, Texas/Jacksonville) and Bria McClure (San Antonio, Texas/Steele). Abercrombie is ranked No. 162 by the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Basketball Report while McClure is No. 187.
Anani Humphrey from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md., comes in at No. 209.
"We have recruited another strong class for 2021, one that we feel should warrant national recognition," said Harmony. "All three are in the Top 250 in the country. I am confident they will be able help us immediately in the CAA."
The 6-1 Abercrombie was also ranked the No. 43 wing in the nation and the 15th-best prospect in Texas. She scored 1,273 points in her first three seasons and averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.9 blocks per game a year ago when she was named the District 16-5A Player of the Year.
Abercrombie has twice earned first team all-district, all-region and All-East Texas honor. She helped Jacksonville capture the first area championship in school history in 2019-20.
In addition to her high school career, Abercrombie played travel ball for Texas United.
"Grace is a long, lanky, big wing who can create her own offense," said Harmony. "She has range past the 3-point line and can score in bunches. Her length will be an asset defensively on the perimeter."
McClure is a 5-5 point guard who ranks No. 40 in the nation at her position as well as the No. 15 prospect in Texas according to PrepGirlHoops. She is a two-time team captain and has helped Steele win 84 games and earn playoff berths her first three seasons, winning the district title each year.
A heavily recruited player who committed to a Big 12 school in seventh grade, McClure has earned all-district, all-region and all-state honors and was a Texas Girls Coaches Association all-star. Her work in the classroom also garnered academic all-district accolades.
McClure also played travel ball for San Antonio's Finest.
"Bria is a shifty point guard who can get into the paint at will," said Harmony. "She is a true creator who will quarterback our offense. On the other end of the court, she is a pesky on-ball defender. She will also bring great leadership qualities to our program."
Humphrey is a 5-11 wing who was a major contributor to a St. Frances Academy team that is one of the top girls' basketball programs in the country, ranking eight in the East Region by ESPN and placing in the Top 25 nationally during the course of the 2019-20 campaign.
A three-time Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland all-conference selection, Humphrey was rated the No. 51 guard in the nation and sixth-best prospect in Maryland. She also played travel ball for the Fairfax Stars.
"Anani is a big, strong guard who can finish in traffic with contact," said Harmony. "She has 3-point range and is a physical defender who will excel in our pressure defense."
