Box Score (pdf)

CLEMSON, S.C. –
College of Charleston used the 3-pointer to stay close most of the way in an 87-65 loss to Clemson on Sunday at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Tyler Collins led the Cougars (1-2) with 18 points and six assists while adding two steals, and Madison Taylor also reached double digits with 13 points and made three thefts. Amira Williams and Arynn Eady tied for the team rebounding lead with eight, with Williams tallying eight points.

CofC hit 11 shots from long distance, including three each by Collins and Taylor, and made six 3s in the opening 12 minutes of the game to stay within single digits for the majority of the first half.

The Cougars held a pair of early leads on layups by Tyler Gray and Collins in the opening minute. A Collins 3 made it 21-17, and Taylor hit one from beyond the arc to end the first quarter with Clemson (5-0) in front, 26-20.

Chelsea Wooten went deep twice in the opening minute of the second stanza to pull the Cougars within 28-26. Another long distance bomb from Collins, and a driving jumper and free throw by Wooten made it 39-34 with under four minutes to go before the half.

The Tigers then scored the final 14 points of the first half and built their lead to 29 early in the third quarter before the Cougars got hot again. CofC scored 10 points in a span of just over two minutes, including a 3-pointer and layup by Taylor and a long distance connection from Williams to make it 67-44.

The Cougars eventually got as close as 17 at 82-65 on Collins' third triple of the game with 2:42 to go.

CofC returns home for its next two games, hosting Winthrop on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and NC Wesleyan on Friday at 4 p.m.
