Career Night For Galloway With 27 In Marshall Loss

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Graduate senior guard Brevin Galloway poured in a game-and career-high 27 points including six 3-pointers in a hard-fought 84-72 loss to Marshall on Wednesday night at TD Arena.

The Thundering Herd (3-0) remained undefeated on the season after having two of their last five games cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19.

In the first half of play, Galloway made three of his six three-pointers on the night to chip away at a 14-point Marshall lead.

Junior guard Zep Jasper also got hot and gave Charleston a 43-41 edge connecting on a long-range 3-pointer with 54 seconds to go in the half. The Cougars and Thundering Herd would go into halftime tied at 43-43.

Coming out of the break, Marshall went on two separate runs and held CofC without a field goal for the first six minutes of the second half. The Thundering Herd were led in scoring by Jarrod West, who had 19.

Galloway was joined in double figures by Jasper with 16 and Payton Willis with 12.

The Cougars (1-3) will have a one-day turnaround to get ready for South Carolina State (0-5), a game slated for Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. (ET) at TD Arena.

POSTGAME QUOTES

College of Charleston Head Coach Earl Grant
On the loss …
"Marshall is a very good team. They return every player. They were a little bit ahead of us. They were better executing with their offensive actions. We are making progress, but we are not where we need to be yet. I thought we played hard at times. Eighty points for us is almost a foreign thing to us. We don't give up that many points. We still have some work to do, to develop this team, to defend the way we want to, so we can execute better."

On the different halves and Marshall runs …
"Overall, I think our guys played hard. There were a couple of runs in the game. Marshall made one in the first half and we made a run to tie it back up. In the second half, they made a run and we weren't able to deliver late in the game. I think some of our shot selections hurt us tonight. We have to value our possessions a little bit better and see if we can continue to grow this team."

College of Charleston Graduate Senior Guard Brevin Galloway
On the loss …
"It's pretty much the same feeling (as the Furman game). In my five years here, we're not really used to losing. It's a different feeling and something we have to change."

On Marshall's shooting and the team's defense …
"Definitely, I feel like we were in the right spots (defensively tonight). We are playing some really talented and well-coached teams. Obviously, both teams that we played the last two weeks can shoot the ball really well. I feel like it is our defense. We have to step-up our pressure more. We are a new team. We have only been together for three months. Obviously, the last couple of years, we have had that defensive base. That's something we have to keep working on."
