Box Score
Charleston, S.C. – Dartmouth pitcher Brooke Plonka worked out of several early jams and finished with 14 strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over College of Charleston on the opening day of the Charleston Invitational at Patriots Point.
The Cougars got a runner as far as second in each of the first three innings on a walk and stolen base by
Jenna Carter in the first, a leadoff double by
Lexee Emanuel in the second and consecutive singles by
Yari Felix and
Brittany Vicary in the third.
But Plonka, who finished with a four-hitter, was able to strand all four runners to keep Charleston off the board. The Big Green broke through in the top of the third against starter
Chandler Sparkman, taking advantage of an error to score two unearned runs on a double by Abby Shipley.
Summer Jenkins relieved Sparkman with one on and nobody out in the fifth and allowed only three hits and struck out two in three scoreless innings.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday at 2:30 against Appalachian State.
