CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston Women's Basketball team is partnering with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in an attempt to spread awareness of one of the world's leading cause of death for women as they take on Elon on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. for Pink Day.
Â
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund's mission is to extend and improve the lives of those who are battling cancer, on our way to finding a cure, by raising money for research and assisting the underserved.
Â
The Cougars are partnering with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund by joining the 2020 Play4Kay National Free Throw Challenge. We are competing against other college basketball teams around the country to see who can raise the most money for those battling cancer.
Â
"This is a special game every year because it spreads awareness of a disease that effects one in eight women around the country," head coach
Robin Harmony said. "It's something that several women all over the world unfortunately have to deal with and it means a lot to be able to have the platform to spread awareness."
Â
Seniors
Deja Ford and
Cailin Dorsey, along with junior
Shai Blanding and freshman
Ashley Daniel spent time with members of the MUSC Wellness Center's Survivors Fit
Group earlier this week. They took the time to speak with them and participated in drills and other workouts during their visit.
Â
"We had the opportunity to go over to MUSC to work out with several women from the Survivors Fit Club. We ran through a few drills and competitions with them," Dorsey said. "The opportunity to play basketball with such strong and inspirational women meant so much to us. Their positivity and humor brightened our day."
