
Eight Cougars Place in Top 35 in Large Field at Upstate Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Six College of Charleston women placed in the Top 30 to lead the Cougars to second place at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg.
Cate Ambrose and Kristen Cherry once again paced the Cougars, taking ninth and 11th place, respectively, in the 5k race. Ambrose finished in 18:35.6 while Cherry crossed in 18:41.3. Ambrose and Cherry have gone 1-2 for the Cougars in all five races this fall.
Jack Wedge (27:06.9) finished 27th and Jackson Reid (27:20.0) was 33rd to lead the men in the 8k race. The Cougars were eighth in the team standings.
Cougar Women
• Sophia Brown (19:19.5) finished 19th overall and third among her teammates, the first time she has placed that high.
• Rhian Purves (19:28.2) was 21st and Morgan Summey (19:49.7) was 28th, marking the first time that Summey has scored for the Cougars.
• Shannon Smith just missed a spot in the top five, with her time of 19:54.4 putting her 29th.
• Isabel Muehleman (21:22.9) and Grace McGrew (21:59.1) rounded out the CofC runners.
• A total of 16 teams and 127 runners competed in the race.
Cougar Men
• Wedge and Reid have been the top two Cougar finishers in all five races this season, with Wedge topping the team for the third time.
• Three CofC runners claimed spots 58-60, led by Dylan McTigue with a time of 28:14.0. This is the second time that he has finished third among his teammates.
• Ryan Moosbrugger (28:16.2) and Hammer Blair (28:17.6) were close behind McTigue and rounded out the Cougar scorers.
• Also competing were Nick Rienzo (29:05.2), Lucas Davis (29:34.8) and Josh Kiefer (32:00.1).
• The field was comprised of 17 teams and 163 runners.

The Cougars are off next weekend before heading to Boston for the CAA Championships on October 30.
