CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (4-6-3, 1-5-1) was unable to get into the win column on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to UNC-Wilmington (9-5-1, 4-2-0). Prior to the match, the 2022 senior class was honored.Â

The match was a defensive battle from start to finish. Shots and scoring chances were limited in the early going, with just a combined seven shots in the first half.

Just when it looked as if the match would enter halftime tied at 0-0, UNCW broke through and scored. In the 43
rd minute, the Seahawks found the back of the net to grab a 1-0 advantage just before the intermission.

The best chance for CofC came in the 62
nd minute, when the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick after UNCW committed a foul in the box. The shot was saved by UNCW to preserve its 1-0 lead. A couple minutes later, in the 64
th minute,
Conner Walmsley's shot was just off target.

Cameron Smith preserved a 1-0 score, there were no more shots on goal. The Seahawks would stave off a flurry by the Cougars and escape with the 1-0 win.
