CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston men's soccer team (3-5-3, 0-3-1) hosted a big home match on Sunday, with #23 Hofstra (10-1-1, 3-1-1) coming into Patriots Point for a CAA clash.
In the first half, neither the Cougars were unable to find many scoring opportunities. CofC had three shots in the first period, but none were on target. Hofstra was threatening throughout the opening period, as the Pride took 10 corner kicks and attempted six shots on goal. Senior keeper
Cameron Smith tallied six saves in the first half alone. The match was tied at 0-0 entering the break.
Just five minutes into the second half, Hofstra took the lead. The Pride slipped one into the bottom left of the net off a corner kick, grabbing a 1-0 advantage in the 50th minute. In the time following,
Cameron Smith made saves in the 62nd and 76th minutes to keep the Cougars in the match.Â
Charleston had opportunies to even the score in the 78th and 85th minute, but could not break through. Not until the final minute, when CofC's
Liam Hudock delivered one of the season's most clutch goals. The Cougars took a corner kick, which resulted in a scrum in the box. Junior
Cas Van Altena sent a pass to Hudock, who fired it in for the equalizer. The remaining seconds ticked off, and the match entered extra time tied at 1-1.
In the first period of extra time, senior
Rio Murray had a shot attempt blocked. It would be Charleston's only scoring chance in the first period of extra time. In the second overtime, Jakob Krtisten ripped one off the left post, just missing a chance at a game-winner. The rest of the match went on without any signifcant action, as the Cougars and Pride ended in a 1-1 draw.Â
