CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (5-8-3, 1-6-1) traveled to Coastal Carolina (6-4-4, 3-1-4) on Wednesday night for its season finale. Despite getting on the scoreboard first, CofC was not able to leave Conway victorious.
The match was a defensive struggle early on, with both clubs struggling to get shots at the goal. But in the 18th minute,
Jake Nicholson lined up to take a corner kick. Nicholson sent a great ball across the pitch and freshman
Daniel Pereira headed it into the net. Pereira's first goal of the season gave the Cougars a 1-0 advantage early in the match.Â
CofC's lead would last just over 10 minutes, as Coastal Carolina scored to even the match at 1-1 in the 31st minute. The match would go to the half tied up at 1-1.
In the second half, it did not take long for Coastal to put the pressure on Charleston. In the 56th minute, the Chanticleers went up 2-1 on Michael Fowler's second goal of the night.
Kane Ritchie and
Jake Nicholson both took shots in the final minutes, but the Cougars were unable to find an equalizer. The Cougars fell, 2-1, to close out the regular season.
