Cougars Drop Heartbreaker to Seahawks

Box Score (pdf)

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Tyler Collins scored 18 points and dished out eight assists to move up two spots in the College of Charleston record book in Friday's 68-66 loss to UNCW at TD Arena.

Collins raised her career assist total to 259 to climb past Natalie Seel and Rachel King into eighth place in Cougar annals. Her 18 points, which included three 3-pointers, was a game high, and she added two of CofC's 10 steals.

Chelsea Wooten and Madison Taylor joined Collins in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively, and Taylor tied Arynn Eady for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Eady, who entered the game ranked atop the CAA in blocked shots, had three rejections and is now fifth in school history with 86.

Za'Nautica Downs led the Seahawks with 17 points, and Carol-Anne Obusek had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The game was close the whole way with neither team leading by more than five in the fourth quarter. The Cougars trailed 67-63 when Anika McGarity drilled a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left, and CofC had a chance to tie or win at the end after UNCW's Rinnah Green made only one of two from the line.

On the Cougars' final possession, Amira Williams recovered a loose ball just outside the lane, but her shot missed as the clock expired.

The Cougars and Seahawks complete the home-and-home series in Wilmington on Sunday at 1 p.m. CofC then wraps up the regular season in a makeup game at Elon on Friday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m.
