CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston baseball team will renew acquaintances with in-state foe Clemson on Tuesday evening when the Cougars travel to Clemson, S.C. to take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m.
 
Game Preview
The Cougars have won seven of their last 10 and are fresh off an 8-0 series-clinching shutout of Tennessee Tech on Sunday. Clemson has dropped three of its last four including back-to-back games to Virginia on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Scouting Clemson
The Tigers come into the week with a 15-13 overall record and a 9-9 mark in ACC play after dropping two of three to Virginia over the weekend. Clemson is batting .256 as a team this season with 35 home runs and a .415 slugging percentage.
 
James Parker and Caden Grice have combined for 13 home runs, 50 RBI and 11 doubles to pace the Clemson attack while batting .345 and .344, respectively. Tuesday's starter, Ty Olenchuk, carries a 1-3 record with a 5.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 17.2 innings in five starts.

Last Time Out
Nine innings of strong pitching, some slick defense and several timely hits paced the Cougars to an 8-0 series-clinching shutout of Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon. Connor Campbell struck out seven over eight scoreless innings while Tanner McCallister launched a grand slam and Luke Stageberg followed with a two-run homer – both in the eighth – to break the game open.

Scoring Under Pressure
The Cougars have done their fair share of scoring with two outs this season with nearly 50 percent (52 of 117) of their RBI coming with two down in 2021. Senior Harrison Hawkins has accounted for 17 of those RBI and leads the team with a .351 batting average with runners in scoring position. The Cougars have scored 64 total runs with two outs including 47 over the last 14 games.
 
Sunday Stalwart
Freshman southpaw Connor Campbell has slotted in as the Cougars' Sunday starter over the last two weekends and shined, going 2-0 while allowing one run on 11 hits and striking out 13 in 14 innings of work. The Mason Neck, Va. native has compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.86 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 34.2 innings over 11 appearances this season.
 
Mashing Mershon
Second-year freshman Joseph Mershon put on a show during Saturday's doubleheader, reaching base seven times in a 6-for-8 performance while launching three home runs and driving in six runs. The Taylors, S.C. native finished a triple shy of the cycle in game one's 9-6 victory going 4-for-4 with two homers, a double and five RBI. He followed with a 2-for-4 effort in game two with a solo shot to left.
