CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The fourth-seeded College of Charleston women's tennis team will begin its quest for the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday morning with a quarterfinal matchup against No. 5 seed Delaware at 9:00 a.m. at the Millie West Tennis Facility on the William & Mary campus in Williamsburg, Va.
The Cougars
Charleston enters Friday's quarterfinal with a 10-12 overall record and finished the regular season with a 2-3 mark in CAA play after avenging an early season loss to UNCW with a 6-1 win over the Seahawks on April 17. Eva Nyikos leads the way for the Cougars with a 13-4 record in singles play while Halli Trinkle carries an 11-5 mark. Slade Coetzee and Kate Earnhardt each enter the CAA Championship with 10 singles victories to their credit. Nyikos and Earnhardt pace the Cougars with six wins in doubles action while the duos of Anastasia Palaska/Trinkle and Coetzee/Elizabeth Nowak have each accumulated four victories.
Quotable – Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo
"We have tremendous respect for Delaware. To go undefeated during the regular season is an impressive accomplishment and nearly impossible in college tennis. This marks the third year in a row that we have played Delaware in the quarterfinals and if this is anything like our previous matchups, it will come down to the wire."
Scouting Delaware
The Blue Hens come into the CAA Championship with an unblemished 7-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark with wins over Drexel and Towson. Four Blue Hens have six singles wins to their credit including a perfect 6-0 record for Emily Gotkiewicz. Jojo Bach and Isabella Montana sport an undefeated 6-0 mark in the second doubles flight.
