CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will play a full 27-match schedule in the fall of 2021 including a pair of home tournaments and a complete 16-match Colonial Athletic Association slate announced head coach Jason Kepner on Thursday.
"I am excited for this fall's schedule," Kepner said. "The opportunity to host two high level tournaments and travel to Duke will definitely prepare us for conference play. Once we get to the CAA schedule, it will be nice to play every team in this new conference format. I look forward to this fall and what this Cougar team will be able to accomplish."
The Cougars will host Eastern Michigan, Kennesaw State, Indiana State and Montana in the CofC Invitational on August 27-29 to open the 2021 season. Following Friday evening's season opener against Eastern Michigan, the Cougars will face Kennesaw State and Indiana State on Saturday before closing out the weekend against Montana on Sunday afternoon.
A trip to Durham, N.C. the weekend of September 3 and 4 will feature matchups with Duke, Howard and Miami (Ohio) at the Duke Invitational before the Cougars return home to host the CofC Classic on September 10-12. Charleston will take on Idaho State on the evening of Friday, September 10, Campbell and Florida A&M on Saturday and Davidson on Sunday.
The 2021 CAA schedule will take on a new look from what fans are used to prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Charleston and the rest of the league will play eight two-match weekend series at one location in place of the previous home-and-home format. The Cougars' conference slate includes home series with Elon, Towson, Hofstra and UNCW as well as trips to James Madison, William & Mary, Delaware and Northeastern.
Plans for the 2021 CAA Championship will be announced at a later date.
Admission to College of Charleston volleyball matches are free of charge. Charleston athletics intends to return to full capacity at TD Arena for the 2021-22 campaign and will continue to work with University, local and state health officials to monitor and follow health and safety protocols based on current conditions.
