CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-7-2, 0-1) played host to the William & Mary Tribe (3-5, 1-0) for the Cougars' CAA opener at Patriots Point. After a hard fought battle, the Cougars fell in extra time, 1-0. The loss drops CofC to 0-1 in conference play, while the Tribe start their CAA slate 1-0.
Charleston played excellent defense in the first half, with senior goalkeeper
Meredith Holton recording two saves in the opening period. The Cougars controlled possession for much of the first half, keeping the Tribe out of the offensive zone. The Cougars had several quality chances to score in the opening half, but could not find a breakthrough. After the first 45 minutes, the score was knotted up at 0-0.Â

Charleston exited the locker room on the attack. In just the first three minutes of the second period, the Cougars attempted several shots. Of the three shots on target the Cougars recorded in the match, each was a great look at the goal that just could not be willed into the back of the net. The remainder of the second half went by quietly before William & Mary threatened in the final minute. The Tribe got a quality chance inside the box, but
Meredith Holton fully extended for an impressive save to deny the Tribe a chance to end the match. The contest went to extra time tied at 0-0.
In the 94th minute, William & Mary found the back of the net to win the match by a final score of 1-0.
