
Charleston Men's Soccer Back in Action vs USC Upstate

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team returns to action after a week off to face the USC Upstate Spartans at Patriots Point. The Cougars are coming off of consecutive shutouts of South Carolina and Stetson to open the 2021 campaign.

Cougars Defense Carrying the Load
• Charleston has recorded two shutouts to open the season, a 1-0 win at South Carolina and a 0-0 draw with Stetson
• Cameron Smith has a 387 minute shutout streak dating back to last season
• Following the two shutouts to open this season, Smith was named CAA defensive player of the week
• Smith won the award twice last season and was named third team All-CAA
Down to the Wire
• For the second consecutive season, the Cougars' first two games of the season went to extra time
• The 1-0-1 start is the best start to the season for the CofC soccer program since 2011
• In 2011, the Cougars also started the season with a win over South Carolina before playing to a draw in game two
About the Spartans
• USC Upstate has dropped its first three contests of the season
• The Spartans were shut out in games at NC State and Clemson, and lost a 2-1 decision to Georgia State
• In 2020, Upstate went 6-4-2 and made a trip to the Big South Tournament finals before losing to High Point
• Junior Mario Arrocha has scored the loan goal of the season for the green and white
