Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Charleston Falls to JMU, 64-55

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (10-7, 2-4) were unable to overcome shooting struggles in a 64-55 loss to James Madison on Sunday afternoon inside TD Arena. 

The Dukes led 24-20 at the half, but won the third quarter 17-9 to begin to pull away from the Cougars.

Charleston turned it over just 10 times and got 20 points from its bench, but was unable to make enough shots to pull out a victory.

First Half

  • The Cougars started 4-of-19 from the field, but thanks in part to Arynn Eady's seven rebounds and three blocks, the Cougars trailed just 14-10 at the end of the opening quarter
  • The Cougars would use a 6-2 spurt to tie the game at 16-16. Senior Madison Taylor scored eight of CofC's first 16 points
  • After CofC tied the game, JMU reeled off eight straight to take a 24-16 lead late in the second quarter
  • Charleston would score the last four points of the second period to cut its deficit in half as the game headed to halftime with JMU leading 24-20
  • Madison Taylor led the team in scoring with eight points in the first half
  • Arynn Eady grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots in the opening twenty minutes

Second Half

  • The Cougars scored the first points of the half, but the Dukes would again respond with an 8-0 run to take a 32-22 lead with 4:49 left in the third quarter
  • The Dukes would lead by as much as 12 in the third period
  • James Madison outscored Charleston 17-9 in the third to carry a 41-29 lead into the fourth quarter
  • A bucket by Tyler Collins cut JMU's lead to 10, but an 8-1 Dukes run extended the advantage to 49-32, JMU's largest lead of the game
  • With just under five minutes remaining in the contest, JMU owned a 55-40 advantage
  • Senior Madison Taylor made back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 59-48
  • The Cougars then turned a couple of JMU turnovers into points to trim the deficit even more. With 1:25 left in the game, JMU led just 59-52
  • Charleston would force a shot-clock violation, but turned it over on the impending possession. James Madison would close out the game at the free throw line and leave TD Arena with a 64-55 victory

Team Stats

  • The Cougars shot a season low 28 percent from the field 
  • CofC once again shot better than 80 percent from the free throw line, this time making 13-of-16 from the stripe
  • JMU won the rebounding battle 50-35
  • Charleston assisted on 12 of its 18 field goals

  • The Cougars got an all-around performance from Arynn Eady, as the senior tallied 12 rebounds, five blocks, four points, and three steals
  • Madison Taylor scored a season-high 14 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from deep
  • Jenna Annecchiarico added nine points and seven assists
