
Cougars Head to Columbia for South Carolina Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track and field team resumes its season on Friday and Saturday when they compete in the South Carolina Invitational at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.
A total of 23 athletes will be competing in 11 events over the weekend. Friday's schedule includes the 60- and 300-meter dashes, the mile, 3000, pole vault, long jump and shot put. The Cougars will have athletes in the 200 and 800 in addition to the 4x400 and distance medley relays on Saturday.
"It's great to finally get our season kicked off with our combined squad," said head coach Amy Seago. "We've been preparing physically and mentally and look forward to measuring our progress as we keep growing toward our goals."
Sprints
A trio of athletes who appear in the Cougar indoor record book will be competing in the sprints. The field in the 60 includes Lily Nowakowski (ninth in the 60, 8.13; fourth in the 55, 7.45), Kaitlynn Bailey (third in the 55, 7.43) and Alicia Wilson (eighth in the 55, 7.69).
Also running in the 60 will be Asiah Gadson, Avery Jackson and Kayla Porter. Nowakowski, Bailey, Wilson, Gadson, Porter, Gianna Cucinotta, Sophia Cucinotta, Laurie Fogleman, Lilli Sustaita and Tallie Tonie will race the 200.
Both Cucinottas, Fogleman and Sustaita are also entered in the 300.
Mid-Distance/Distance
The 800 and mile will feature three members of the CofC indoor record book. Emily Dorony enters the 800 ranked fourth in school history with a time of 2:17.94. She will be joined in the event by Grace McGrew and Kacey Smekrud.
Cate Ambrose and Kristen Cherry headline the entries in the mile. Ambrose is eighth in Cougar annals at the distance (5:10.40) while also ranking ninth in the 3000 (10:18.43). Cherry is eighth in the 3000 at 10:18.14.
Sophia Brown, Isabel Muehleman and Shannon Smith are also in the mile, and Morgan Summey will compete in the 3000.
Field Events
The top two pole vaulters in school history will be in action. Luzy Lieger stands first in both the indoor and outdoor record books and owns a PR of 4.00m (13 feet, 1 ½ inches). Christian is one spot behind and has a PR of 3.80m (12-5 ½). Tallie will also compete in the pole vault this weekend.
In addition to the 60, Jackson will compete in the long jump while Logan Gray is entered in the shot put.
