Charleston Set to Open CAA Play at Home vs. Drexel

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (8-3, 0-0) will open its CAA slate on Friday night as the Cougars face the Drexel Dragons (8-2, 0-0) at 7:00 p.m. inside TD Arena. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.

- The Cougars coasted by Radford and Florida A&M in the Coastal Carolina Christmas Classic, giving CofC five straight victories for the first time since the 2009-10 season
- The Cougars won all five of its contests in December, outscoring its opponents by an average of 32.2 points per game
- Charleston sophomore wing Anika McGarity was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association office on Dec. 20 as the league named her the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-19.
- McGarity scored 22 points against Radford on a 7-of-10 day from beyond-the-arc. Against FAMU, the sophomore from San Antonio backed it up with 17 points on 3-of-5 shooting from distance
- McGarity is the first CofC player to be awarded the honor since Deja Ford won the award for the week of 1/6/2020.
- McGarity also leads the CAA with 25 three-pointers made this season
- Arynn Eady ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage at 71.8 percent.
- In addition to field goal percentage, Eady tops the CAA in blocked shots per game. Her 2.4 rejections per contest ranks 20th in the country.
- After being picked to finish 7th in the CAA, the Cougars tied for the second most non- conference wins in the league (eight)
- Charleston leads the conference in assists, field goal percentage, scoring offense, steals per game (a number ,14.8, that leads the nation), threes made, threes attempted, turnover margin, and turnovers forced
- Charleston is 4-0 this season in true road games and 6-0 away from TD Arena
- In all 11 games this season, the Cougars have forced at least 11 steals
- CofC - which ranks first nationally in turnover margin - forces 24.7 takeaways per game
- Drexel is off to an 8-2 start to the season. This is also the Dragons' CAA opener
- Drexel has tied the 2016-17 team for the best 10-game start in program history
- The Dragons are led by Keishana Wahington who scores 16.1 points per game
- This will be the 15th all-time matchup between the Cougars and the Dragons
- Drexel leads the series 10-4
- The Dragons won the most recent matcup, 72-60, in March 2020
