Cougars Compete at Pirate Invitational in Final Regular Season Meet

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston competes in its final cross country meet of the regular season on Friday at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina.
The event will be held at Overton's Lake Kristi course with the women's 6K beginning at 4 p.m. followed by the men' 8K at 4:45. The field also includes CAA members Elon, UNCW and Hampton.
Sophia Brown has been the top runner for the Cougar women so far this season, leading the team in all three meets. The sophomore entered the record book in the 6K with a time of 18:00.63 at the Firetower Project in Boon last month.
Brown was 12th at the Royals Challenge last Friday, leading a group of four Cougars in the top 50, a quarter which also included Rhian Purves, Hannah Wise and Emily Dorony. Charleston finished third of 27 in the team standings.
Hammer Blair turned in his best performance of the season with a PR of 25:47.1 at the Royals Challenge. Jack Wedge, who led the Cougars in the first two meets, also placed in the top 100. Jackson Reid, Brock Davee and Dylan McTigue rounded out the scorers for the Charleston men.
Following Friday's meet, the Cougars compete in the CAA Championships on October 28 in Newark, Del.
