Pride Claw Past Cougars, 3-1

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. --- College of Charleston suffered its third consecutive setback in CAA play on Saturday falling to Hofstra in a four-set slugfest despite the Cougars edging the Pride by a narrow margin in hitting percentage.
 
Hofstra (10-8, 7-0 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 25-20 and 25-21 to remain unbeaten in league play. The Pride finished the afternoon with 66 kills, 10 aces and nine blocks compared to totals of 45, two and eight for the Cougars. Charleston (7-11, 2-3 CAA) outhit Hofstra by a .296 to .291 margin as the Pride committed 14 service errors compared to just three for the Cougars.

With the score tied at seven early in the fourth set, Hofstra embarked on an 8-4 run to open a 15-11 advantage on a kill from Yagmur Cinel. The Pride would go on to win the set, 25-21, to seal the victory.

  • Claire Campbell returned to form with team-highs of 10 kills and four blocks while hitting an even .500.
  • Anna Smith put together an efficient afternoon with nine kills on 17 swings to go along with eight digs and two blocks.
  • Chandler Manusky paced the Cougars with 11 digs while adding five assists and two aces.
  • Lexi Wierzbicki put down eight kills and finished with a .316 hitting percentage.
  • Emma Appleman recorded 19 assists and seven digs. 
Match Notes
  • The Cougars registered one of their most efficient sets of the season in the second hitting .519 as a team with 15 kills and one error on 27 attempts.
  • Emma Falk finished with three blocks marking her fifth straight match with at least three stuffs. The senior has recorded at least three blocks in seven of the last eight matches.
  • This marks only the Cougars' second loss this season when leading in hitting percentage.
