Second Half Proves Decisive in Loss to Norfolk State

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Norfolk State outscored College of Charleston by 25 in the second half in a 77-47 win over the Cougars at TD Arena.

Jada Logan led all scorers with 25 points and added a team-high six rebounds. Anika McGarity joined her in double figures with 12 on the strength of four 3-pointers. The Cougars were missing point guard Jenna Annecchiarico, who was out with an injury.

Kierra Wheeler came off the bench to score 14 points and pull down 15 rebounds for the Spartans. 

Charleston plays its first road game of the season on Friday at Tarleton State.

How It Happened
  • The Cougars got off to a good start and led by as many as five at 16-11 in the first quarter.
  • It stayed close for most of the second quarter, with a basket by Logan giving Charleston a 27-26 lead.
  • The Spartans went on a 9-0 run for an eight-point lead before a 3-point play by Logan made it 35-30 at the half.
  • Logan scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting including a pair of 3-pointers in the first half.
  • The Cougars were held without a point for the first eight minutes of the third quarter as Norfolk State took a 21-point lead.
  • The Spartans led by at least 20 throughout the fourth quarter.
Statistically Speaking
  • Logan made 10 field goals, including three 3-pointers, and both free throws for his 25 points.
  • Zoe McCrary and Jaila Roberts had five rebounds, and Roberts added three assists and two steals.
  • The Cougars shot just 28.1 percent from the field while the Spartans finished at 51.7 percent.
  • Norfolk State also held a 50-29 advantage on the glass and blocked six shots.
Game Notes
  • Logan's 25 points were one shy of her career high set against UNC Asheville while playing for USC Upstate.
  • Her 10 field goals made also came within one of her career best set in that same game against the Bulldogs.
  • McGarity made her first appearance of the season after missing the win over Meredith.
  • The Cougars won the previous took meetings against the Spartans, including a victory in Norfolk last year.
  • The Cougars play their next three on the road at Tarleton State on Friday, Gardner-Webb (Nov. 23) and Radford (Nov. 30).
  • Charleston doesn't play at TD Arena again until hosting Coastal Carolina on December 2.
