Stephenville, Texas - Despite maintaining a lead through the first three quarters and as late as 4:40 remaining in the game, College of Charleston could not hold on in a 82-72 loss on the road Friday night at Tarleton.
Jada Logan led all scorers with a career-high 28 points, adding four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Jaila Roberts joined her in double figures with 22 points, dishing out a team-best four assists.
Adaora Onwumelu had a game-high 10 rebounds to tie her career-best while adding six points.
Tarleton's Tyler Jackson had 20 points and six boards in the victory for the Texans.
The Cougars continue their road trip on Wednesday with a game against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C.
How It Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 21-17 lead after one quarter, thanks to a pair of quick threes from both Roberts and Anika McGarity.
- The Texans outpaced Charleston, 18-16, in the second period, but the Cougars held on for a 37-35 lead at the break. Logan scored 21 of her 28 points in the first half.
- The Cougars sunk a trio of triples in the final five minutes of the third quarter to head into the fourth period with a 61-56 edge.Â
- Charleston's offense went cold in the fourth quarter, as Tarleton took advantage of a 16-2 run midway through the final stanza. The Cougars last lead of the game was 66-65 at the 4:40 mark.
Statistically Speaking
- Logan made 11 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and converted five free throws on her career night.Â
- The Cougars shot 44.2% (23-of-52) from the floor in the first three quarters before shooting 17.4% (4-of-23) in the final period.
- Tarleton outrebounded Charleston, 46-37, and got to the charity stripe 33 times, making 23 of their free throws.
Game Notes
- Logan's 28 points was a new career high for the senior, topping her previous best of 26 against UNC Asheville while playing for USC Upstate. Her 11 field goals also tied her career high set in that same game versus the Bulldogs.
- Roberts scored only six points in her first two games as a Cougar before erupting for 22 against the Texans. Twelve of her points came on four 3-pointers.
- Onwumelu has collected 10 rebounds in two of the last three contests.
- Tarleton improved to 2-0 all-time in the series versus the Cougars with tonight's victory.
- Charleston continues its three-game road trip on Wednesday, taking on Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m. The Cougars wrap up this road stint at Radford on Nov. 30.Â
