
Track and Field Concludes Indoor Season at USC Open

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston track and field team returns to the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex for the second time this season when they compete in the USC Open on Friday.
The Cougars will be looking to build on strong performances in their first two indoor meets this winter, including several athletes who have altered the school record book.
Sprints
The sprints will be highlighted by the participation of Kaitlynn Bailey, Lily Nowakowski and Alicia Wilson. Bailey ranks third in school history in the 55 (7.43), fourth in the 60 (7.96) and sixth in the 200 (26.32).
Nowakowski is fourth in the 55 (7.45), ninth in the 60 (8.10) and tied for 10th in the 200 (26.75), and Wilson is eighth in the 55 (7.69).
On Friday, Bailey is competing in the 200 and 400, and Nowakowski and Wilson are entered in the 60 and 200.
Avery Jackson will also run the 60. Gianna Cucinotta, Sophia Cucinotta, Laurie Fogleman, Asiah Gadson, Kayla Porter and Lilli Sustaita will be in the 200 and 400.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Cate Ambrose, Emily Dorony, Kristen Cherry and Kacey Smekrud are the top Cougar runners entered in mid-distance and distance races.
Ambrose, Dorony and Cherry will run the 800 and mile, and Smekrud is in the 800 after breaking into the record book in her track debut three weeks ago with a time of 2:21.98 at the South Carolina Invitational.
Ambrose is sixth in CofC history in the mile (5:05.90) and ninth in the 3000 (10:18.43). Dorony ranks third in the 800 (2:17.97), and Cherry is eighth in the 3000 (10:18.14).
Also running the 800 and mile are Sophia Brown, Grace McGrew and Shannon Smith. Morgan Summey is in the mile and 3000, and Isabel Muehleman is competing in the mile.
Field Events
Luzy Lieger and Chloe Christian are 1-2 in school history in the indoor pole vault. Lieger has a top indoor mark of 3.80m (12 feet, 5 ½ inches), and Christian is right behind at 3.67m (12 feet, ½ inch).
Logan Gray will look improve on her mark of 12.08m (39 feet, 7 ¾ inches) in the shot put, a throw that has her sixth in the record book.
In addition to running the 60, Jackson will compete in the long jump.
