CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team opened the 2022 Spring season with a commanding 7-0 victory over South Carolina State on Tuesday afternoon at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

The Cougars took the first two doubles matches with the pairings of Slade Coetzee/Halli Trinkle and Kate Earnhardt/Elizabeth Nowak claiming victories.

Freshman Maja Jekauc claimed her first singles victory of her College of Charleston career. The Cougars won all but one singles set on the day, with all six Cougars participating claiming victories.

Head Coach Angelo Anastopoulo: "After a delay to the start of our season, the team did a really good job. Congratulations to Maja on her first collegiate victory, as well as congratulations to Coach Blake Mosely on his first victory with the women's team. I thought we played really, even though we did have a bit of advantage given the challenges South Carolina State has had in starting its season. I thought we played well for a season opener, but there is still a lot to work on."

Maja Jekauc: "It was a great victory. After all the practice and work put in, it was nice to compete. I'm glad it went that way and I'm pretty proud to have my first win for the Cougars!"
