CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team (9-5, 1-0) continued its upward trajectory on Tuesday, opening Colonial Athletic Association play with a 5-2 win over Elon at the CofC Tennis Center.

The win gives the Cougars their fifth consecutive triumph and improves Charleston's record at the CofC Tennis Center to 8-1. 

CofC's 9-5 record is its best through 14 matches since the 2017-18 squad posted the exact same mark through 14 contests.

The Cougars got off to a hot start, with Elizabeth Nowak and Maja Jekauc winning doubles on court three. Clara Errard and Kate Earnhardt then picked up a doubles win on court two to clinch the doubles point. On court one, Halli Trinkle and Slade Coetzee improved to 8-2 in doubles play with a 6-2 victory to clinch the doubles sweep.

In singles, CofC and Elon split to first two decisions, with courts 6 and 5 finishing first. After Slade Coetzee's win improved her to 11-1, Elon won a match to make the score 3-2. 

Maja Jekauc won 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the match, then Halli Trinkle stormed back to win 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Trinkle moved to 12-1 in singles with her victory.

"It's always a competitive match when we play Elon, and today was no different," head coach Angelo Anastopoulo said. "To pick up an early win in the ultra-competitive CAA is important in order to get a good seed come conference tournament time. We continue to improve in doubles and we battled reallt hard to win four-of-six in singles. We get a quick day off then we will get ready for four matches in four days. I could not be prouder of the team and it was a great birthday present."
