Cougars Win Sixth Straight, End Davidson's Seven-Match Win Streak

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team (10-5, 1-0) picked up its sixth consecutive win on Thursday, taking care of business versus Davidson with a 6-1 win at the CofC Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars stormed out of the gate in doubles, claiming early edges in all three matches. On court three, the Cougars picked up their first win of the day with a 6-3 victory by the duo of Elizabeth Nowak and Maja Jekauc. The duo improved to 6-2 on the season in doubles play.

The doubles point was clinched on court one, where Slade Coetzee and Halli Trinkle continued to dominate together. The pair won 6-4 to win the doubles point and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. On court two, the final doubles match was unfinished. It was knotted at 5-5 at time of stoppage.

In singles, the Cougars won the first set on three of six courts, putting the Wildcats on their heels. Before the first set on court one finished, Halli Trinkle had already wrapped up a win on court two. Trinkle prevailed 6-1, 6-1 to improve to an outstanding 13-1 mark in singles competition.

Maja Jekauc wrapped up a singles victory on court three (6-2, 6-1) to give Charleston a commanding 3-0 lead. Davidson picked up a win on court four, giving the Wildcats their first point of the day.

Davidson's hopes at a comeback rested on court five, and those hopes were dashed when Elizabeth Nowak clinched a Charleston victory with a 6-2, 6-3 singles victory.

Helena Huff improved to 4-0 with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 win in court six. Slade Ceotzee finished off a marathon of a match, coming back after losing the first set to win 6-7, 6-3, 11-9.

"A really great win over a really great team," head coach Aneglo Anastoupolo said. "Davidson is an old SOCON rival and they came in red hot. To get a 6-1 victory over a team like that makes a coach really happy."
