
Sizzling Cougars Play Host to No. 27 Georgia Tech on Saturday Morning

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team (14-5, 3-0) will host its biggest home match since 2017 when No. 27 Georgia Tech visits the CofC Tennis Center on Saturday. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m.
The aforementioned match in 2017 was a loss to the No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels. Charleston last defeated a nationally ranked team on February 25, 2017, a 4-3 win over No. 39 William & Mary.
Winners of ten straight matches, the Cougars are in the middle of their longest streak of victories since the 2008 season. A win on Saturday wold extend the streak to 11, which would match the streaks achieved in 2005 and 2009.
After a week in which she went 5-0 as Charleston's No. 1, Slade Coetzee was named the CAA Player of the Week. She won three straight set victories, battled to an 11-9 tiebreak win, and then defeated the No. 81 player in the nation and the defending CAA Player of the Year, Mila Saric, to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Cougars. In the final set of the deciding match, Coetzee rallied back from down 4-1 to win 7-5 and give the Cougars the victory. Coetzee is 15-1 on the season and has won 11 matches in a row.
Other Cougars also had outstanding weeks in singles. Freshman Maja Jekauc has won six consecutive singles matches in the No. 3 position - all in straight sets. That excellence has extended to doubles, where Jekauc is 9-3 in 12 doubles matches alongside Elizabeth Nowak.
In the No. 2 position, Halli Trinkle has also been dominant. The junior from Charlestown, Indiana is 16- 2 on the season. Trinke has played every doubles match in the first flight with partner Slade Coetzee and the pair have racked up an 11-4 record.
In CofC's last match, the Cougars cruised to a 6-1 win over Tennessee-Martin. It was the 550th career women's tennis victory for head coach Angelo Anastopoulo in his storied career.
