CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston men's soccer program will have several standouts participating in the United States Soccer League 2 (USL2) and the National Premier Soccer League this summer.
Tom Wilson and Leonardo D'Ambrosio will play for the NPSL's Electric City Shock, a club based out of Scranton, Pa. Wilson and D'Ambrosio will return to CofC this fall as sophomores. Wilson started seven matches in the fall and played at least 74 minutes in every appearance.
Returning senior and defender/midfielder George Maxwell will compete for the NPSL's Georgia Revolution, a team in the club's southeast division and located in McDonough, Ga. An injury cut Maxwell's 2021 campaign short, but the London native started all 13 contests in which he appeared in 2019.
The remaining six Cougars playing in summer leagues will participate in the USL2. Damon Williams and Chris Matlashewski, who transferred to CofC from Akron and Clemson respectively, will join South Carolina United for the summer. SC United is based in Columbia and resides in the league's South Central Division.
Nick Burnz will play for the Dalton Red Wolves of Dalton, Ga., also of USL2's South Central Division. Burnz will return to CofC this season after playing in all 16 matches in the fall and scoring two goals. Burnz also scored the game-winner against Delaware.
Peachtree City MOBA, based in Atlanta and in USL2's South Central Division, will be Steven Cahill's club for the summer. Cahill, a midfielder from Cambridge, England, is one of the more experienced players on Charleston's roster. Cahill will bring that leadership and wisdom to the team again next fall after a solid 2021 campaign that saw him log the third-most minutes (1231) for the Cougars.
Rounding out the group heading to the USL2 are Daniel Pereira and Kane Ritchie. The talented duo will suit up for the Ocean City Nor'easters of Ocean City, New Jersey. Ritchie led the club in goals scored (5) this past season, while Pereira was named to the CAA All-Rookie team following a strong freshman campaign.
