CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston plays a rare weekday morning contest when the Cougars face Hampton at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point in the first meeting between the two schools.
The game was originally scheduled to kickoff at 2 p.m. but was moved up three hours as a result of the potential impact of Hurricane Ian. The match concludes a three-game homestand for the Cougars.
The Cougars enter with a record of 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the CAA, losing to Drexel before rebounding with a 2-1 win over Delaware on Sunday. Delaney Dawes scored both Charleston goals against the Blue Hens, and Grace Powell and Lilly Ray contributed assists.
Dawes moved into a tie for third on the team with Olivia Freitas with three goals, trailing Powell with six and Mary Alexander with four. Faith Slimmer and Bubbles Dever top the assist list with four each.
Savannah Barron has started seven of the first 11 games and has a 1.14 goals against average and .758 save percentage.
Hampton is 2-7 and 0-2 in its first season in the CAA. The Pirates have dropped conference contests to Hofstra and Stony Brook and own non-conference victories over Regent and South Carolina State.
Nyle Nwainokpor leads the team with four goals, followed by Maya Martir and Taryn Goodwin with three each.
