GREENSBORO, N.C. –Jaila Roberts scored a game-high 23 points for the second week in a row. College of Charleston's women's basketball team where North Carolina A&T took the win by a score of 76-71 on Sunday afternoon in Greensboro.
The Cougars dropped to 8-11, with a CAA record of 3-6. North Carolina A&T moved to 14-6, with a CAA record of 8-1.
Jada Logan followed close behind Roberts with 22 points.
Adaora Onwumelu matched her career-high with 10 points.
Jordyn Dorsey for North Carolina A&T scored 21 points, following close behind her was D'Mya Tucker with 18 points.
How it Happened
- Logan made the game even at five at 6:40. After head-to-head action between the Aggies and the Cougars for most of the first. Logan dropped 14 points to give Charleston the edge over NC A&T by a score of 18-17 at the end of the first.
- The Cougars and Aggies both started the second with layups, but after that, the Aggies took a 7-0 over the Cougars, where the score read 26-20 at 7:20. Charleston went on an 8-0 run to put them on top at 2:37 left in the second by a score of 28-26. North Carolina A&T combatting another head-to-head competition against Charleston but just passed Charleston by a score of 35-32 to end the second quarter.
- Charleston and North Carolina A&T continued the head-to-head action to begin the third quarter, where the score read 43-39 at 6:19 with the Aggies ahead. Charleston came through with a 9-0 run to put them ahead 48-43 with 4:48 left in the third, which led North Carolina A&T combatting with a 6-2 run to bring the score to 49-50. The two teams went head-to-head to finish the third, but Roberts dropped a three at the buzzer to even the score at 57.
- During the fourth, the Cougars and Aggies made the score even at 61 for the seventh time with 8:10 left. The Cougars edged the Aggies by a score of 69-66 with 4:22 left in the fourth, the Aggies went for a 12-2 run to bring them on top by a score of 76-71.
Game Notes
- Roberts dropped her fourth double-digit game in a row with 11 points against Monmouth, 15 against William & Mary, and 23 against Stony Brook.
- Logan has scored double figures in 17 of her last 19 and has eight 20+ point games.
- College of Charleston will return home for a quick home stand to start the month of February to face UNCW Friday (Feb. 3) and Elon Sunday (Feb. 5).
