CHARLESTON, S.C. –The College of Charleston's women's basketball team rallied in overtime to defeat UNCW 71-63 at TD Arena on Friday night.
The Cougars moved to 9-11, with a CAA record of 4-6. UNCW dropped to 4-16, with a CAA record of 1-8.
Jaila Roberts with a double-double for the College of Charleston with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Alexis Andrews matching her career-high 18 points and
Adaora Onwumelu with a career high 12 points.
Carrie Gross for UNCW dropped 22 points.
College of Charleston will honor Women and Girls in Sports at their game versus Elon on Sunday (Feb. 5).
How it Happened
- While Charleston scored first, UNCW took charge for the rest of the first quarter and kept their defense tight only allowed the College of Charleston to score eight. The Seahawks led the Cougars 23-8 at the end of the first quarter.
- Charleston went for an 8-0 run midway through the second quarter cutting the deficit down to nine at the half courtesy of eight points from Alexis Andrews. The Cougars limited the Seahawks to 25 percent from the field compared to 83.3% during the first.
- Charleston took way with a 12-2 run in the middle of third to bring them ahead 45-43. UNCW dropped a sneaky lay-up to bring the score even at 45-45 to end the third.
- The fourth was head-to-head competition between the Cougars and Seahawks where Charleston was within one on four different occasions in the quarter. A made free-throw from Andrews made it even at 58-58 right as time ended to force overtime.
- UNCW shot 28.6% from the field compared to Charleston's 66.7% from the field in overtime which was the deciding factor in the game.
Game Notes
- Roberts dropped her fifth double-digit game in a row with 11 points against Monmouth, 15 against William & Mary, 23 against Stony Brook, 23 versus North Carolina A&T, and 24 tonight.

- College of Charleston will head back up north to face Drexel (Feb. 10) and Delaware (Feb. 12).
