Cougars Conclude Regular Season at Upstate Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston makes the first of two trips to Spartanburg on Saturday when they compete in the Upstate Invitational.
The women's 5k starts at 9:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 9:45 a.m. at the Milliken Research Center. The large field includes 37 teams and a total of 662 athletes.
That course is also the site of the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held on November 10.
The meet is the final one of the regular season for the Cougars, who next compete on October 27 at the CAA Championships in Mechanicsville, Va.
Rhian Purves and Mitchel Drees have been the top Cougar runners this fall, leading the women and men, respectively, in all four meets. Purves is coming off a ninth-place finish and helped Charleston place third as a team at the Royals Challenge last Friday.
Savannah Stoutt and Maeve Gimbert had season-best 5k times and were right behind Purves among Cougar athletes.
Drees leads a strong contingent of freshmen for the men. He has been joined as a consistent scorer by fellow first-year runners Roger Brown, Ben Ashmore and Rob DiMedio.
