Drees, Purves Make Record Book Moves at Upstate Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mitchel Drees moved into the College of Charleston record book while Rhian Purves climbed one spot at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday morning in Spartanburg.
Drees posted a time of 25:33.6 in the 8k race to tie interim head coach Chris Bailey for seventh on the all-time Cougar list. Drees led the Charleston men for the fifth time in as many races during his outstanding freshman season.
Purves jumped from eighth to seventh on the women's 5k chart with her time of 17:54.2. Like Drees, Purves has been the top finisher for the Cougars in all five meets.
Jackson Reid was the No. 2 Cougar runner with a time of 26:16.9, followed by Tucker Green (26:48.2) and Rob DiMedio (26:56.6), who both had PRs in the 8k. Ben Ashmore was the fifth scorer by crossing in 27:10.9.
Purves led the women to a fourth-place finish in a field of 32 teams. She was followed by Savannah Stoutt (18:13.8), Sophia Brown (18:15.2), Maeve Gimbert (PR, 18:22.6) and Hannah Wise (18:35.3).
Both teams are off next week before heading to Mechanicsville, Va., for the CAA Championships on October 27.
