MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Grace Powell scored in her final home game in College of Charleston's 1-1 draw against William & Mary on Sunday at Ralph Lundy Field.
Despite earning a point against the Tribe, the Cougars were eliminated from contention for a spot in the CAA Tournament. Charleston will wrap up its season next Sunday at Elon.
Just four minutes into the match, Powell converted a free kick for her 16th career goal to move into 10th place in school history. The Pinewood Prep graduate is also seventh in career shots (130), tied for ninth in shots on goal (59) and tied for seventh in games played (78).
William & Mary pulled into a 1-1 tie in the 29th minute and it stayed that way despite the Cougars firing 11 shots in the second half and 18 for the day.
Savannah Barron made seven saves for Charleston.
"A fantastic performance from the Cougs on a day we celebrate our alumni," said head coach
Christian Michner. "We were sharp from the early stages of the match all the way to the final seconds.Â
"It's a fun group to coach and be around, and I'm proud of the way they fought together to the end. I only wish we'd have connected on one more opportunity to win it.
"I couldn't be prouder of this group and how they've responded positively each and every time we asked them to." Â
